random selection, deep crop, static overlays
I've been building out the Unconscious Associations exhibit for just over a month and have noticed that my image selection process has been biased toward specific time periods. While I have 50 years of archival material, there were periods where I was making images more prolifically than other years. Here are a few time periods I have been selecting from.
Recent images - 2023-24 (digital iPhone)
SF images taken 2010 - 2011 (digital flip phone and iPhone)
East bay images spanning 2012-22 (iphone)
Teenage years (analog print)
Early-mid 90s (analog VHS and Hi-8 video)
The result has been image selection that reflects certain content and moods and areas of historical interest.
This biased approach made me curious about using a method to try to randomly select images
